Faith In the God of Creation At Work
“By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”
Hebrews 11:3
Faith Sees the Invisible Work of God
As we continue our journey through the Heroes of faith, I want you to
think about this: Hebrews 11:3, our faith verse for today, shifts the focus,
from the heroes of faith, whom we will say more about later, God willing, to the source of ALL faith: Without our Creator, God,
who reveals Himself, in Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, faith is not possible;
therefore, before Abel offered a more pleasing offering to God, before Enoch walked with God is such a special holy way that God" took him, "without him dying, before Noah built the Ark — God
spoke. And from nothing, everything appeared!
Where Faith Begins
This verse reminds us that faith doesn’t begin with our actions. Faith, unquestionably, begins with God’s spoken Word. We weren’t there when the universe was formed. We didn’t witness light breaking into darkness or galaxies spinning into place. Yet we understand — not by sight, not by feelings, nor by what science is said to "reveal," but we do so by faith — that the visible world rests on the invisible command of God. He spoke, and out of nothing, everything.
How Faith Sees
Faith, then, is not blind. Faith is seeing deeper. Faith looks past what our eyes can measure, and it embraces God's handiwork, and it allows us to see, with spiritual eyes, the fingerprints of the Creator. Faith simply trusts that the God who spoke worlds into existence can also speak into our sickness, our pain, our chaos, our aloneness, our uncertainty, our emotional struggling, and waiting.
The Faith Pattern
Hebrews 11:3 gives us a pattern for every challenge we face:
- We don’t see the outcome ...yet —
but God has already spoken.
- We don’t see the resources ... yet —
but God creates from what is unseen.
- We don’t see the path ... yet — but
God forms what we cannot imagine.
Faith doesn’t demand proof. It is proof. Faith rests in the character of the One who created all things. Why?
Because He provides the certainty of all we hope for and the proof of what is
NOT seen. (See Hebrews 11:1)
A Time of Reflection
- Where in life do we need God to “speak” again?
- Where do we need Him to work his new creation in us?
- Where do we need Him to shine light in to our darkness?
- Where do we need Him to give hope where hopelessness abounds?
- Where do we need Him to form something out of what feels like nothing?
- Where do we need Him to give us the grace to become certain of what we hope for experience proof of what we cannot see?
Let us let Hebrews 11:3 remind us: The God who created the universe, who sustains it, who knows each part of it, and each one of our names, who knows YOUR name and MY name, is not limited by what we can see. He really can help us to have the eyes of faith to see the God of Creation at work in us, if we let Him. Will we let Him?
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come to You, as our Creator God, who spoke everything in to existence, to speak into our hearts faith. Help us, no matter what we are facing, to simply trust you, believe in You, follow You, through Jesus. Take away our need to have things proven to us, and grace us to know that we can be certain of all that You promise, and that Your promises are proof enough for us. Help us, who believe, overcome our unbelief. God of Creation, help us see You at work in us.
In Jesus Name.
AMEN !
