The Shield That Stops Satan's Fire

“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” — Ephesians 6:16

IN ADDITION TO ALL THIS

As we continue this series where we put on the armor of God, to clothe ourselves in Jesus Christ, in order for us to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power, and as we do this to be able to stand against the Devil’s schemes, the Apostle Paul tells us we need to add a really vital part to our spiritual armor, if we want to defeat Satan in his primary scheme: After all,  “He is a liar, and he is the father of all lies, and when he lies he speaks his native language.” {John 8:44c} Therefore, we need to add “The Shield of Faith.” Then we are empowered to stop Satan's fire.

Faith is not passive. Paul doesn’t say, “Hold on to faith somewhere nearby.” He says, "take it up! Lift it! Raise it! Use it!" Yes! We choose to walk in faith!

In the Roman world, a soldier’s shield wasn’t a small round disc. It was a large, door‑shaped barrier, often covered in leather and soaked in water before battle. Why? Because the enemy would shoot arrows wrapped in burning pitch. A dry shield would catch fire. A wet shield would extinguish the flames on impact. Faith extinguishes Satan’s lies when they are pointed at our hearts. Paul knew exactly what he was saying.

The enemy still fires flaming arrows—accusations, lies, temptations, fears, discouragements, sudden waves of anxiety, old wounds trying to reopen. They come fast and unexpectedly. But faith. “The certainty of the things we hope for, and the proof of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1) miraculously gives us the victory instead of letting his lies defeat us. Yes, faith is trust in who God is, what He has says, and what He has promised! Faith puts out the fire of Satan’s demonic lies before it spreads, and before we are defeated!

Faith doesn’t stop the arrows, or the lies from being shot. It stops them from burning you or defeating you. It stops them from stunting your spiritual growth and life!

Faith says:

  • God is with me even when I feel alone!

  • God is faithful even when circumstances shake me to the bone!

  • God’s Word is true even when my emotions disagree!!

  • God’s power is greater than the enemy’s pressure.

  • Faith makes us free ... indeed.

Every time you choose to trust God instead of the lie, you lift your shield. Every time you speak His promises instead of your fears, you extinguish another flaming arrow. Every time you stand on His character instead of your circumstances, you push back the darkness.

Faith is not the absence of attack. It is the victory over it! It is Holding On Promises Eternal, and it is choosing the truth over the lie. And what is truth? It is The Word of God-the Holy Bible. It is The Spirit of Truth. It is choosing Jesus who is THE Way, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE, as you know that no one can come to THE Father accept through Him.

Prayer:

Lord, when Satan schemes and lies and sends his lies flaming towards us, we lift up the gift of Faith. We do this to drown out the lies of Satan. And when our faith is weak, we pray that you help us overcome our unbelief. By faith, we choose to know, if You said it, that settles it; therefore, we choose to believe it. Today, by your grace, we choose to silence and drown out the lies of the evil one, by believing in what You teach is eternally true. In Jesus name. Amen!

Pork Chops & God: When I was a child, I remember every one of us sitting around the kitchen table. Mom and Dad were sitting at either end of the table, and if I remember correctly, the three boys sat on one side, and the girls sat on the other side.
