The Word of God is living active, sharper than a two edged sword, piercing to the dividing of the spirit, the soul, joints and marrow. And it is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 If you ever want to see, hear, smell, taste and touch something that is vibrantly alive, it is the Word of God: For millennia, when people intersected - and still do intersect - with this Word, they find it to be active and empowering. When people open themselves to this Word, it pierces to the very core of their being in a life giving transformational ways.  Like a Sword of the Holy Spirit, it reaches deep into a human life. It penetrates way down to where we are made to be God conscious (our spirits.) The resurrection of our spirits occurs, and we are born again! When the Almighty applies the Word, we are no longer just self conscious (soul perception) but the spirit and the soul are so pierced by this that the new creation God promises occurs!
