The Armor of God: Standing Firm In Righteousness

Stand Firm then ... with the breast plate of righteousness in place. Ephesians 6:14b

As we continue looking at how to clothe ourselves in Christ, by putting on the Armor of God, we now come to a very important part of our spiritual clothing that gives us grace to “Be strong in the Lord, and in His mighty power.” And it also gives us the power to “stand against the Devil’s schemes.” After determining to walk in THE Truth, by committing ourselves to the truth by putting on the belt of truth. We now come the highly important “breast plate of righteousness.”

And it’s all about standing firm, as we put on the belt of truth, and now, “the breast plate of righteousness."" There is a reason Paul begins the armor of God with the command to "STAND" as we go out to face each day, before we advance, before we attempt anything —we are told simply to plant our feet. Stability comes before victory. We stand in the truth. We stand in righteousness, the breastplate of righteousness. In ancient battle, the breastplate guarded the heart—the most vulnerable place. Spiritually, righteousness does the same. It shields the core of who we are from accusation, shame, and the enemy’s attempts of Satan to lie to us and to undermine our true identity in Christ.

However, this righteousness isn’t something we manufacture. It’s not our good behavior, our spiritual performance, or our ability to “get it right.” The breastplate is given to us IN Christ Himself—His righteousness covers us, defends us, and empowers us to be transformed into new creations. His righteousness is in us to have all we need to live godly lives, as Peter tells us in 2nd Peter 1:3. Listen to what Peter says.

“His Divine power has given us everything we need to live a godly life, through our experience with Him who called us by His own glory and goodness

When we put on this breastplate, we are choosing to believe some powerful works of God’s grace in our lives. For example, we believe…

We are covered by Christ’s righteousness:

  • We are participants in God’s Eternal Covenant, paid for by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, through which, His blood results in our forgiveness, His sacrificed body our sanctification, and our being seen by the Father, as perfect in Christ.

  • We believe and receive that, the Holy Spirit continues writing God’s laws on each heart. and places them in our minds.

  • We hold on to the fact He no longer remember our sins. He does NOT hold any of them against us.

  • And we hold on to God’s grip of grace where He gives us access into God Holiest place.

  • We believe our lives are protected by His finished work.

  • We believe we can stand firm because He has made me secure.

Today, before you rush to face the day, pause and “put on” the breastplate, as you clothe yourself, in Christ, by putting on "The whole armor of God." Let Christ’s righteousness settle over your heart like armor—steadying you, grounding you, and reminding you that you stand not in your strength, but in Jesus Christ and the finished work of His Cross and Holy Covenant. This is how we abide in Christ. (John 15)

Prayer

Lord, thank You for covering me with Your righteousness. Help me stand firm today—secure, protected, and confident in who You are and what You’ve done. Guard my heart and steady my steps. In Jesus Name I pray,  Amen.

God bless you, today, as you grow in grace.
