HE gives power to the faint.
And to them who have no might,
HE increases their strength.
Even young people will faint and be weary.
The strong young men can utterly fall.
But they, who wait on the Lord, will renew their strength.
They will mount up with wings like eagles.
They shall run and not be weary.
They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:29-31
Given the right, or not so right, circumstances, fainting can take place, just as being so bone tired makes you feel powerless. Again, given some challenging circumstances, even a really strong young person can feel weary, and their load may be so heavy, that they simply fall. In our scripture lesson, being able to be like an eagle, being able to run tirelessly, and being able to walk tirelessly, as God increases strength, occurs when we "wait on the Lord." Hmmm. What does "wait on the Lord" mean? I am glad you asked.
Waiting by Being Alone with the Lord.
In this fast-paced world, where we clutter our minds with Smart TVs, smartphones, tablets and computer technology, AI, or just plain business, can become really addictive. Add to this self-made stress, what you do at work, or school, and we set ourselves up to be overwhelmed. And all the stress induced adrenaline really can wear you out:
Additionally, living like this makes "being still, and experiencing God" kind of uncomfortable when we think about it; nevertheless, this is a part of God's remedy for overwhelmedosis. Intentionally spending time just waiting on the Lord by sitting comfortably, resting in the Bible, being quiet and talking to Jesus like HE is your friend -- because HE is (John 15:7), and listening, moves you toward renewing your strength. It, helps you do like an eagle in. a storm. He doesn't flutter or fuss, he simply lowers his head, locks his wings forward, rest in his Creator, and soars up into the storm, without a fight, until he is in the clear blue sky. Renewed strength as described in Isaiah 40::29-31 takes root in your lives as you "wait on the Lord."
"Wait" Also Has Another Meaning.
Some people are wired a bit differently; for example, two sisters (Mary and Martha)) loved Jesus, and one (Martha) was busy waiting on everyone making sure the meal was just right. Her weakness is she served but didn't accept her different kind of sister, and this kept her from a blessing. Here is a blessing she could have had: There are a whole lot of us who get strength by waiting, like waiting on tables, doing good for others. This strengthens us, refreshes us. It renews us and revitalizes us. We get stronger by simply doing acts of random kindness. In using our gifts to get busy waiting on others we have a similar experience as the one waiting quietly in prayer.
I don't know how the Creator has created you. Are you an alone time with God kind of person? Or are you gifted to use your gifts showing kindness? Personally, I think God's enormous way of renewing our strength might involve both. Being alone with God, sometimes for hours, in the early hours of the morning, before anyone is awake, is absolutely vital for me to be fully alive throughout the day. And it empowers me to be able to listen to the Holy Spirit and accomplish unnoticed acts of random kindness as God creates me to do so. And this also strengthens me.
One thing is for certain. God really helps us when we are weak, if we "Wait. on the LORD."
