The Wisdom of The Word
And how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:15
So Paul is writing to the young man Timothy, and he is talking with him about "the Holy Scriptures." If you continue reading what he says on through verses 16 and 17, he says quite a lot. But it is about the single most important topic of the Holy Scriptures that he wants Timothy to reflect from the outset. He wants him to think about something that he has learned from the Holy Scriptures that he has known "from infancy." He wants him to remember the wisdom of God's word. He wants him to really think about the salvation made possible through faith in Jesus who is the Christ.
I got to thinking about this today, and it occurs to me that we write all kinds of books, blogs, articles or pamphlets related to the word of God, and in so doing I wonder if we get so wrapped up in the minutia that we forget the grand message the Word has sought to share throughout universal history: The Word of God shares a lot of wisdom, knowledge and understanding, but there is one message that, if we miss it, we miss the main thing. In so doing we don't keep the main thing the main thing.
What I am trying to say is this. Of all we hear from the Word of God, we do not want to miss out on the reason of the Word... to make you and me wise in such a way to experience the very salvation of God that comes in one way. It comes through faith in Jesus.
So, when you read the word, for what are you listening? I hope it is to grasp the ancient Wisdom that makes you find salvation through faith in Jesus.
