The Elder's Faith Filled Blessing: Isaac

The Value of The Elder

There comes a moment in every generation when Godly Elders of a family arrive at a place where they must speak —they must speak to the future. They should not do this from preference, not from emotion, but from faith. Isaac did this. And when he opened his mouth, God opened the future. It is important for our following generations, to realize that God cares for the Elder. The Elders in your life matter. Their words matter. Their faith matters. Their God given blessing may have an surprisingly important impact on things to come. The Elder’s words just might affect you more than you realize, if you will listen.

Elders Have Important Role

Before Isaac, gave his blessing, blessings came only from God. As a matter of fact, Isaac becomes the first elder to speak a covenant blessing forward. His words become the bridge between Abraham’s promise, that God gave him, and Israel’s future, and this establishes the biblical pattern: God blesses the elder → the elder blesses the next generation.

Isaac Modeled Two Blessings

The First Blessing was given in (Genesis 27:27–29.) It was given in human weakness. He was really old. He was blind. He was tricked by Jacob and his mother. Therefore, he spoke God’s blessing even while he was being deceived. This did not matter to God. For this blessing became prophetic. Needless to say, he gave it by faith, and God honored it because of his faith. Just like he will do for you.

The Second Blessing is found (Genesis 28:1–4) He spoke it intentionally, and it was Covenant‐shaping. It was identity‐forming. Through this blessing, the blessing of Abraham passed forward to future generations. This is important because Isaac’s faith made both blessings binding, prophetic, and aligned with God’s will.

White Heads

As our hair becomes white with the frost of many winters, it is important for us to be sensitive to God’s Holy Spirit. It is important to allow HIM to speak through us, just as I am speaking with you now: Why? Because blessing is not merely encouragement — it is intercession. Because blessing is not merely approval — it is alignment with God’s will. It’s providing God's wisdom to all those who follow, if they will listen. Blessing is not merely tradition — it is prophetic participation in God’s future for the next generation. Blessing is an act of faith that says: “I believe God will do in you what He has promised.”

Withholding Blessing

Isaac could have withheld blessing as he with-held his blessing from Esau, who gave up his birthright for a bowl of soup, and who was tricked out of this blessing, but he did not withhold it from the one whom God wanted blessed; however, it just may be that Elders today often do withhold blessings— out of fear, disappointment, or uncertainty. Maybe the blessings are withheld because the Elder feels unworthy to give a blessing. But withholding blessing can leave the next generation spiritually unfathered.

It is important, therefore, for Elders to discern God’s will. For God did not allow us to walk this long journey with HIM and the not pass on the wisdom HE provides. What does God want the Elder to do? Elder brothers and sisters, this is important. Ask this vital question: “Is God asking me to bless? Or to wait? Or what” Either way, the elder acts by faith.

We Have God's Eternal Covenant To Share

Fellow Elders in the Faith, as a people who have an Eternal Covenant to pass on, and as people who walk in faith, let me encourage to you speak it forward, lest it be lost to your children, your grandchildren and your great grandchildren. Speak blessing intentionally. By the Word of God that governs your life, speak blessing prophetically. Speak blessing by faith. Speak blessing according to God’s will, not human preference. Become, by the grace of God, Elders who give and receive God’s blessing faithfully.

Here Is My Challenge

Isaac’s faith unlocked Jacob’s future, as he imparted God’s grace to him, and to future generations. Your faith can help someone grow in grace and unlock someone’s future too. As Christ Followers, we need to pass on the ways of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and we need to do so via the leadership of God’s own Holy Spirit. The next generation is waiting — not for perfect elders, but for wise and faithful ones to speak to them God’s  Wisdom. They, too, really need to experience, and become, God's  eternal recipients of God’s eternal grace and Eternal Covenant. This is the Covenant fully paid for by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Prayer

Father, give we, who are elders, the courage to bless by faith. Teach us to speak Your will, not our own, into our children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Help us to speak YOUR blessings to any others who are to come. Make our words prophetic, eternal life‐giving, and aligned with Your purposes. Raise up generations, who come after us, to be ready to receive YOUR blessing. And may they, and we, become blessed to be a blessing.
