The Big Question
How Would Jesus Answer “What Is Truth?”
On that "Black Friday" or "Good Friday," Pilate asked Jesus, "What is truth?" Then he turned and did not even wait for an answer. Lots of people, today, like to ask this same Pilate question, and all too many act like Pilate. They don't really want to know THE Truth, and so many, therefore, are deceived by believing the lie that says each of us has our own truth.
Nevertheless, on that day, Pilate’s question hanged in the air like a sigh of confusion, as he tried to navigate the mob mentality of the Religious Jewish leaders and the mob they gathered. Sadly, he asked the question, and, as I said, he then he walked away:
“What is truth.”
What If Jesus Answered His Question?
If Jesus had chosen to answer Pilate directly, which he would not have done, for this would have directly denied the prophecies about His silence, His answer, or answers, would be clear: Scripture already tells us what He would have said—because He has answered this question before, and He also knew/knows God the Father’s Word, which He IS and was.
Jesus’ answer would be simple, bold, and deeply personal:
1. Truth is a Person!
Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” Truth isn’t an idea, a philosophy, or a shifting opinion. It’s not free for all to have their own truth. Truth stands in front of Pilate—And He, THE Truth, is being beaten, battered and bruised. Yes, one of His own identities declares, "I AM The Way, The Truth, and The Life. John 8:36
2. Truth is God’s Word!
Jesus prayed, “Your word is truth.”
Truth is what God speaks, what God reveals, and what God promises. It is not invented by culture or altered by time. Jesus's great Priestly prayer declares this when He says, "Sanctify them by thy truth. Thy Word is truth." John 17:17 K. JV The Holy Bible is His revelation of The Truth. And it's 7 fold purpose includes:
- God's Word Inspires us. He breaths it into us. It is God breathed.
- To profit us to know God's doctrine. That is to tell us what He wants us to know, be and do.
- To profit us to know God's reproof. This tells us what God wants us to stop doing.
- To profit us by correcting our course. He wants to help us stay on course as we walk His way.
- To profit is by instructing us in the right way. Yes, there is, indeed, a right way to live and an wrong way to live.
- To profit us by taking us to His perfect state of being. He uses it to make us to be new creations in Christ.
- To profit us by thoroughly furnishing us to do good works. He provides us with the wherewithal to do right things.
See 2 Timothy 3:16 and 17, and this makes us wise in God's salvation ways. (verse 5)
3. Truth is Light in the Darkness
Jesus came to “testify to the truth.”
Truth exposes lies, heals confusion, and brings clarity where the world offers only shadows. He testified, "I AM The light of the World.!" When He lights up our lives, and He makes US the light of the World, which He says is one of our identities, the light He shines through us chases away all our darkness, and that of those around us on whom we let it shines. This is The Truth.
4. Truth is Freedom
Jesus said, “The truth will set you free.” John 8:32
Truth breaks chains—of fear, sin, shame, deception and It gives eternal life. Truth delivers us from bondage to sin and death. John 8:34-36.
Pilate looked at Truth and didn’t recognize Him. So, Pilate, while being the Premier Roman Leader and representative of Caesar, and by extension, Rome, he was a slave to deception and to the mob. He was not a free man. He had no clue what truth was. We look at Jesus and find the One who defines reality, anchors our hearts, and steadies our steps. He delivers us by the very suffering of that “Good Friday.”
5. Truth is “The Spirit of Truth.” He is the one who reveals all that is true about God The Father, and Jesus, who is the Son of Man and Son of God, who is one with God... A Great mystery of the Powerful Triune God. This is THE Truth.
6. Truth is the combination of all Jesus’s teachings and tell us, if we believe them, receive them, and make them a part of our lives, we will be His disciples, indeed. And in those teachings, He give us a rock-solid grounding to live and truly live. John 8:31-34, and John 10:10. While "the thief comes to kill, steal, and destroy, He comes to give us life to the full."
7. Truth , through all these things, becomes the “circumcizer” each of our hearts and minds to provide in us the mind of Christ, the heart of Christ, and and the ability to walk in the newness of the straight and narrow way. Deut. 30:6 , Colossians 2:10-11 and 1 Corinthians 2:16.
Prayer
Dear Jesus,
There is no question, You are Truth itself. You are the one who provides us so many abundant life amazing life giving things. Help us listen to Your voice, through the blessed Holy Spirit, through your Word, the Bible, and through Your teachings. Please, let us hear you above all the noise of our culture. Don't let us be deceived, as was Pilate. Don't let us be betrayed by all the voices that talk about each of us having our own truth. This is simply not truth. Let Your eternal truth govern our lives. Let Your everlasting truth steady each of our my minds. Cause Your truth to guide our choices, and shape our lives. Cause The Truth to keep us on the straight and narrow. In your Holy Name we pray, Jesus. Amen.
Brother's and sisters, "Black Friday" or "Good Friday" looked like THE END, but that was a lie, Yes, it was Friday, but Sunday was coming, and THE TRUTH prevailed! Hold tightly to THE Truth. God Bless You.
