Heroes of Faith And Our Faith

 Hebrews 11:1 & 2

Faith is the certainty of the things we hope for.
It is the proof of things we cannot see.

For this the ancient ones received God's Commendation

Faith and Sight

Faith begins where sight ends. It anchors us to the things we hope for long before those things ever appear. When we say that faith is “the certainty of the things we hope for,” we are declaring that God’s promises are more solid than our present circumstances.

And when we say faith is “the proof of things we cannot see,” we are admitting something powerful: the unseen world is not imaginary — it is simply invisible. Faith becomes the bridge between what God has spoken, through The Word, by the Power of The Holy Spirit,  and what we have not yet experienced.

Ancient Commendation

This is why the ancient ones, of Hebrews 11, were commended. They lived as if God’s word was already reality. Because God's promises are, indeed, the ultimate reality. They trusted His voice more than their surroundings. They held tightly to what He said over the circumstances. No matter how they felt, as we talked about last time, their lives became testimonies that God keeps His promises.

So today:

  • Let our faith give weight to our H.O.P.E.

So, let us Hold OPromises Eternal
  • Let our decisions to trust God remind us that unseen does not mean uncertain. It certainly means, if God said it, that settles it.

  • Let God's promises, as we journey through each day, be our eternal proof.

  • Let faith in Jesus, as The Word, and faith in Jesus as The Savior, and faith in God's Eternal Covenant steady our hearts the way God's promises steadied the saints who have gone before us, whom we will be discussing in the coming days, God willing.

The same God, who commended them, sees our faith as well. Like these people, who are ordinary people, who because of faith, lived out extraordinary lives,  be our inspiration to do likewise and keep Holding On Promises Eternal.  They were no more special than are we. BUT they did maintain a special relationship with God, and we who are Christ Followers, can certainly maintain a special relationship with the Almighty as well; additionally, we have an advantage because God gives the gift of faith to us as one of the gifts of The Holy Spirit. And when we struggle, we can pray, "God I believe! Help ME overcome my unbelief." (See Mark 9::24)

Heavenly Father,

Grant us, by the power of Your own Holy Spirit, the gift of faith. We believe. Help us overcome our unbelief. Help us. Give us grace to trust Your promises with unwavering certainty, even when the path is unclear. We can do so because Your promise is our proof.  Please, provide strength for our hearts to live boldly as those who came before us. Because of Jesus in our lives, let us be confident in Your faithfulness. May Your Holy Spirit make our lives become a testimony to Your steadfast love and power. Guide us daily to walk by faith and not by sight, as we Hold On Promises Eternal,

In Jesus’ name, we pray.

Amen
