The Most Important Things About Which Christ Followers Can Talk

 

On any given Sunday on planet Earth, millions of messages from the Bible are preached about many different things.  I could spend the entirety of this blog listing all the subjects covered.  But one thing concerns me a lot. That which is "of most importance" seems all too often to be placed on the back burner of what is really important. In other words, keeping the main thing, the main thing prevents God's single most vital message from being proclaimed. And what is that? I am talking about "The Gospel." Check out what Paul says about this below. In speaking about the Gospel, Paul says the following:

"For what I receive, I passed on to you of "first importance:" That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. That he was buried, that he was raised from the dead according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and the sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the Apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as one abnormally born." (Excerpted from 1 Cor. 15:1-8)

Here Paul lays out what is most important of all:
  1. Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures: This highlights the atoning sacrifice of Jesus, the Messiah, fulfilling the prophecies of the Old Testament. His death is a substitutionary sacrifice to pay the penalty for humanity's sins.
  2. He was buried: This confirms the reality that he actually did die. And the prophets also fore told this death and what it would be like. In other words, his death is according to the Scriptures.
  3. He was raised from the dead on the third day, according to the Scriptures.
  4. This is not a fairy tale because hundreds saw him alive and well validating what was written in the Scriptures. There is actual historical evidence for his resurrection.
  5. Because he lives, we also have the power to live eternally, and we will be resurrected from the dead.
In summary, the single most important thing we Christ Followers can spend our time speaking about is the absolute good news that Jesus died for all our sins. He was buried and rose again from the dead. All of this according to the Scriptures and was witnessed by many. What makes this most important is that this message is the foundation of salvation for those who believe. 

Therefore, while we Christ followers talk about many things, let's be sure to keep the main thing the main thing. Let's be sure we let others know, what I am sharing now: Jesus came, and provided us with the greatest news in the entire world. He paid the price for the good news.  Let's share about how he died according to the scriptures, was buried and rose from the dead according to the scriptures, and let's call on people to believe and receive the gospel of Jesus coming to save a lost and dying world to provide it with eternal life. Remember, the Gospel is the most important thing we can talk about as Christ Followers.

Strength For The Broken Heart and Weary Soul

  One of the deadliest, and life-threatening diseases, is heart disease, and journeying through life with this debilitating morbidity is an overwhelming thing to be sure. Pork Chops & God: When I was a child, I remember every one of us sitting around the kitchen table. Mom and Dad were sitting at either end of the table, and if I remember correctly, the three boys sat on one side, and the girls sat on the other side. I remember reading a comic strip called " Little Abner. "  He actually was a big muscular guy wearing overalls. And I remember he was sitting at a table, all by himself, with a stack of pork chops on a plate. He had all the pork chops to himself.
