Strength For The Broken Heart and Weary Soul
One of the deadliest, and life-threatening diseases, is heart disease, and journeying through life with this debilitating morbidity is an overwhelming thing to be sure. That is unless you have the Lord God Almighty walking with you every step of your journey; additionally, you can become overwhelmed, not necessarily by this particular disorder, but you can really be dealing with overwhelming trauma, that simply drags you down to the valley of the shadow.
Perhaps, it can best be said like this: You are going along in life, and BAM! Life comes at you in ways you were not anticipating. Whatever the circumstances, the situation is heart breaking, and your soul is simply weary. Then, all of the sudden, you feel like everything in you is giving out. Your body aches, fatigue sets in, and your mind is overwhelmed with worry. It feels like your spirit is crushed by disappointment, and you feel utterly depleted.
Well, the writer of Psalm 73:26, seems to have experienced all the above and more; yet in this powerful verse, he reveals God Almighty's divine wisdom: He acknowledges the very real limitations of human beings. His physical body is letting him down, and his emotional core is weak and failing. His "flesh and heart are failing him!" However, the verse does NOT end there. He boldly declares, "BUT God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever!" WOW! What a glorious "BUT."
Think about the LORD's remedy: When our own resources are exhausted, God shows up! God steps in! HE is not just A strength! HE is THE strength of my heart! HE is THE strength of your heart! You do NOT face life challenges alone! HE is the core of our being! HE infuses us with resilience, courage, and peace, even when our outer circumstances are crumbling. That is, if we let HIM.
But there is still more good news. The verse reveals, God is our "portion forever." This is talking about HIS unwavering faithfulness and HIS complete sufficiency! HE is all we need, not for a season but for all eternity. When all else fails, HIS presence, HIS love, and His power, through HIS powerful Holy Spirit, remain our secure and lasting inheritance.
Remember this: As you face whatever it is that you are facing, that is more than you think you can handle, God can help you. Your body, and even your heart may indeed feel weak or even seem like it is failing. Let go and let God take over. Lean on those powerful everlasting arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus! You will find, as the Apostle Paul says, that HIS grace is sufficient for you. HIS power is perfected in your weakness.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
We confess to you that our flesh, and our hearts, do fail us.
Sometimes, we grow weary, discouraged, and overwhelmed. Sometimes, things are just too much. Thank YOU that YOU are not limited by our limitations. Through YOUR Son Jesus, and by YOUR powerful Holy Spirit, YOU are more than enough for all of our brokenness and stuff. YOU are the unfailing strength of our hearts, and YOU are our eternal portion. Help us to embrace YOUR grace that is sufficient for us. Help us to surrender so that YOUR power is perfected in our weakness.
In Jesus Name we pray.
AMEN!

Amen.
