Living According To God's Will: Doing What You Can

Doing What You Can

When many think about living according to God's will, people dream of doing wonder filled, stupendous and amazing things that would appear to be nothing short of super natural; however, such grandiose thinking may hinder our God's gifts from being fully realized in accomplishing God's will; for example, in the 3rd year AD, the Chief Priest, and the Teachers of the Law were looking for a way to arrest Jesus. But the cowards were definitively not wanting to do so during these feast days. Needless to say, they held up taking actions because they were afraid the people would riot.

Jesus Sharing A Meal While God's Will Took Place

Jesus, during this time of treachery, was enjoying a meal with people at "Simon the Lepers House."  Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. When, all of the sudden a woman came in, and she got down on the floor next to where Jesus was reclining. And she took some very expensive oil and anointed his feet.  (Check out Mark 14:1-10) Folks got ticked off. They fussed at the woman. They pontificated loudly about the waste of the oil.  They declared the oil was an equivalent of a years worth of wages. And Jesus rebuked them. He told them "Leave her alone!"  "She has done what she could." Then He explained she was anointing Him for his burial.  Shortly after that Judas betrayed Jesus.  What was God's will in these matters? It was to be sure Jesus was anointed for His burial.  How was this done?  It was accomplished by one woman simply doing what she could.

The Challenge:

Do What You Can!  As you seek God to guide you in your calling, and as you seek to do God's will, it's easy to complicate things by trying to do only the big things. And God may be asking you to do so; however, there is a real possibility that God is asking you to K.I.S.S. God may be asking you to "Keep It Simple Saint."  Yes, like this woman in Mark 14:1-10, be a person who begins your daily journey seeking God's will by simply doing what you can. Others may not even like you doing so, just as they didn't like what this woman did, but do the little thing anyway. During 3rd year AD, people were looking to arrest Jesus. People were trying to kill Jesus.  During 3rd year AD, Judas, shortly after this woman did the will of God, went to do Satan's will and get his 30 pieces of silver to betray Jesus.

Remembering Jesus's Affirmation

Do you remember what Jesus said about this woman besides "She did what she could?"  Check this out. "Whenever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will be told in memory of her." WOW! Doing what she could might have seemed to be a little thing, but over 2 thousand years later, we are still remembering her!!! This reminds me of words the Lord want's to say to us when our judgment comes: "Well done good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over small things, I will make you ruler over bigger things."

Prayer

Our Father in Heaven,
help us, by the power of Your Holy Spirit, to
discern Your will.
Help us trust you, when you guide us to do be
faithful, and do what we can. Yes, help us obey
in doing the things that may be thought of as big,
but don't let us miss out on doing those small things
that will be memorable to You and that will privilege us to hear
"Well Done!"
In Jesus Name We Pray.
Amen!
