Victorious Living
Because of The Understanding One
For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to empathize with our emotional struggles and weaknesses because He (Jesus) has been tempted just like we have been tempted; yet, He did not sin.
Hebrews 4:15
One of the most amazing things I have observed is that there are more than a few people who do not understand that Jesus was tempted. The Jesus in their picture frame seems to be detached from real life so that many just cannot see how He relates to us in everyday life. As a matter of fact, there is no temptation we have experienced that Jesus has not already experienced long before we discovered Planet Earth. And He did not cave into sin; (2 Corinthians 5:21) therefore, He gives us the ability live in a way pleasing to God.
In other words, we do NOT have to sin. In 1 Corinthians 10: 13, we are told, There has no temptation seized you that is uniquely designed just for you. Indeed it is a common temptation that many have experienced. And God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted above your capability to overcome. He will indeed give you a way to escape so that you can defeat it.
So how did Jesus defeat temptation? He declared His dependence on God the Father by quoting the truth. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4) Because He knew this word, He won the temptation battles, for example, with Satan saying to him, "It is written..." Then He told Satan what God's word said. Satan could not stand up God's truth filled word.
We will be victorious by following Jesus example. Rely completely on The Word of God. Declare that applicable word to the temptation and the evil one behind it. Move forward by faith.
