Helping Vets & Helping You Have A Healthy Spirituality Part One.

Over the years I have learned that America is jam packed loaded with people who are dysfunctional out the wazoo.  This is largely due to the abuse and pain that has been passed on from one generation to the next; for example all kinds of dysfunction results from the following stuff: Verbal abuse: This is where a child is cursed at, sworn at and called a less than gentle version of what use to be called an illegitimate child.  This also includes the child being told "you will never amount to anything!"  Or "Why can't you be like your brother/sister?"  In other words derogatory words were pounded on the child and into the child as the parent's (or parent type) pain was unleashed on an innocent.  (BTW.. a parent type is a coach, teacher, scout leader, church leader.... any adult in authority over the child who influenced various areas of the child's life.) Physical abuse:  What the words did not do, the fist,  and other utilized objects did.   Emotional ab...

WHO WOULD DARE NAME THEIR CHILD SUCH A WIERD NAME?

How many of you have stuck with a name that just drives you crazy... or at least use to drive you crazy when you were growing toward to adulthood.  Yup... you know exactly what I am talking about.  Like old Johnny Cash being named "Sue" years ago in his multi-million selling album...a name that the song said caused him a WHOLE BUNCH of problems... You have a name or know of a name a friend has that simply ended up labeling them in a way they did not  prefer.  Then it  may have  caused pain from the first day they began k'garten or grade school until they were able to either change it or adapt it. Let see..... what are a couple of examples?  Name a boy Francis, and it won't be long until he becomes Frank.  Alfred becomes Al. Although I am cool with the name Alfred now.  After all it means "Wise noble counselor."  Mom must have known the future better than I. Throughout my life, I have known things that have been life changing in others and myself that I ...

WHEN WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH

The Psalmist once wrote the following words from the deep part of his heart:   "Trust in HIM at all times you people; pour out your heart before HIM; God is a refuge for us."    It seems that when He wrote this Psalm (62:5), he knew a very important secret about language.  Sometimes language is a frustrating tool.  You know what I mean.  Don't you.  When we want to express the deepest thoughts of our hearts, words simply fail us. Paul believed the same way when he said in Romans 8:26 " Sometimes we do not know how to pray as we had ought, but the Spirit helps us..." I am so glad God does not speak any language other than heart language. No matter who we are or where we are from, the mind and compassion of God are NOT bound by our ability to express ourselves in oral or written form.  God knows and empathizes with that part of us that is so deep that words are inadequate to express it; therefore, when we come before God, finally able to admit what has gone wrong ...

THE UNLIKELY HERO

Occasionally I tell you about one of my vets.  A whole bunch of them are heroes.... I mean real heroes... we throw the term around WAY too much; but this one is the REAL deal.   Just want to tell you about one of the "Greatest Generation"  heroes.  This one was in England in preparation for D Day.  Then, though an army medical personnel, followed the 101st Airborne...  All over Europe.  Patched up a whole bunch of them and watched a bunch of them die.  Snatched some from the jaws of death.  Went into harms way numerous times.  Nearly died.  Got a Bronze Star and made it home safe. Oh... I didn't mention the name did I?  Sorry.  No can do.  Have to protect the identity; however I know you need some kind of identity.  So, you may ask, "Who is he?  Good question.  The only thing is he is not a he at all.  She is an 88 year old great grandmother who is coming to the end of her journey but still a hero in my book.  (By the way.  I did not get this story from her.)  True h...
