The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your body will be full of light. Or if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be filled with darkness. If then, the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness.
Matthew 6:22-23
Adam and Eve
Adam and Eve, our ultimate ancestors, had the perfect relationship with God. They could see all things clearly. They could see the Kingdom of God, and they even walked with God, "in the cool of the morning." Their vision was healthy. Or as the Hebrew could be translated another way, their vision was holy. Their spirit's were alive, and their spirit -- the part of them that truly enabled them to experience, or see God with the light of God, was 20/20. Their vision was perfect. Their lives, because of what they truly saw, was full of life and light; however, when they decided to be "gods" themselves, and they ignored God's teaching, darkness took them over. They began to see God with darkened, distorted, and evil influenced eyes. Why? Because they had died. That is their spirit's died. The light within them became darkness, and oh "how great is that darkness."
The Religious People
Many religious people today, who are not unlike the Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes or other religious folks of Jesus time, are religious. They may even go to church regularly. They may be powerful church leaders. They may dress in holy clothes and call themselves "Bishop" or "Reverend," or "Pastor," or "Professor," as they teach theology. They may even live by a bunch of rules the would make folks consider them as people of the light. In our modern times they would be people of some of our "Mainline Denominations." Many are governed by secular humanist religious thought. Sin is not a word that governs their lives. Nor do they consider sinning, or not sinning, as something that matters. They try to demonstrate moral equivalence of the unholy with the holy. Only they don't use these word. They created new terms like "progressive" or "traditional." In China, they have rewritten the Bible. They worship the creature, and Not The Creator. And, Oh how great is the darkness coming from how they see and from how they view things. Condemnation will be their end state. Their spirit's are dead, and they really cannot see the Kingdom of God. They need God's Miracle
The Miracle
But these religious ones have not yet been born from above. That is to say, they have not been born again. They have not turned from their sins to be set free from bondage to sin and death by Jesus. They have not been delivered from the Kingdom of darkness and brought into The Kingdom of Light. Sadly, they miss out on "The Miracle:" However, when anyone turns from sin to Jesus, that is, when anyone repents of their sins, and when they bow their knees and confess Jesus as Lord, and when they believe in Him, and receive Him, The miracle of new birth takes place. The person's spirit is resurrected! Because Jesus lives, this person becomes fully alive! This person can actually see clearly The Kingdom of God! He/she are in an intimate relationship with the Lord God Almighty. And all the things the religious folks miss out on, the now holy/healthy child of God receives! Hallelujah! This is a Miracle!
Cosmonauts and Astronauts
During the early days of the Russian and United States space programs, a "space race" had occurred. Each country wanted to "one up" the other. Sometimes the Russian Cosmonauts and American Astronauts were interviewed by various news agencies. When it came to religious thought, the Russians were officially atheist. In the United States we were a nation of religious liberty where people could worship, or not, according to the dictates of each one's hearts. At any rate, a Cosmonaut was asked, "You have gone all out into space. Did you see God anywhere?" To which the Russian said, "I have been all out into space, and I did not see God anywhere." Likewise, the American was interviewed, and he was asked, "You have been into outer space. Did you see God anywhere?" And the American said, "I have been all out into space, and I saw God everywhere." One had eyes that were darkened to God and the things of God. The other experienced God lighting up his life.
What About You?
What is your spiritual eyesight like? Can you see the Kingdom of God? Do you see God anywhere? Do you see God everywhere? Or are you letting the evil one put a dark veil over you eyes? Do you have eyes that do not see? Do you look around in darkness? Why not walk on Jesus "Stepping Stones for Victorious Christ Centered Living?" Why not turn from your sins to Jesus? Why not decide to follow Jesus? Why not follow Him as your Savior and Lord? Turn away from sin, and bondage to sin and death. And don't turn back. Why not overcome the darkness of spiritual blindness.
