Covid-19 Virus and God Taking Care of His Children.
Give us, today, our daily bread. Jesus
The Old Normal Verses The New Normal
Normally, during our old normal, in these United States of America, people do not tend to be too concerned about how they will be taken care of. I am not saying this is true for everyone here, but most. That is until the COVID-19 hit, and things began to change. A new normal has happened: Now 17 million Americans have lost their jobs, and this is the result of completely shutting our economy down. Small businesses are shuttered and even our church buildings are closed. Many people are really scared regarding the future. We are not even allowed to gather in groups. We have to stay away from one another. We cannot even hug one another. I cannot imagine how it is for those of you who are in other countries where your economies were not near as robust as the one we had in America. And I know some of you, in other nations, love to embrace one another, which is not something we are advised to do here in 2020. My heart goes out to you.
The One Day At A Time Spiritual Practice
However, as I get back on track with the Jesus prayer, and what He tells us to pray, Jesus is advising Christ Followers to trust God for today to supply the needs of God's people. He is very clear here, as He is in other places, that He wants you and me to be victorious by practicing the spiritual practice of living one day at a time. He doesn't teach us to pray, "Lord, give us this week what we need." He doesn't wish us to be concerned about a year, next year or the next ten years. He is concerned about each of us trusting God for today. He wills us to walk one step at a time with our God, as we live one day at at time. It's like what He said in Matthew 6:34:
Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.
for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.
The Gift
Did you catch what happens when we take too big a bite out of time, as we think about things? Did you catch what happens to you and me when we do this? Doing so is really unhealthy/unholy: When we spend our time focusing on stuff in the past or stuff in the future, our anxiety levels begin to rise. I am convinced the more days, in the past, we keep focusing on, rather than centering on today, the more we will be anxious; likewise, the more time we keep focused in the future, rather than being grounded in today, the more we will worry unnecessarily. I like the KJV version of the verse above better. It says, "Take NO thought about tomorrow." In other words, don't give it any consideration at all. Tomorrow, He goes on to say, will take care of itself. His final conclusion regarding these matters is that each day has enough of it's on stuff going on. And that is plenty for us to handle. Someone once said it like this, "The past is the past, and the future is the future, but today is a gift, that's why we call it 'the present.'" Why not, therefore, gift yourself a special gift during these challenging Coronavirus/Covid-19 days? Why not focus your focus on the only day that God guarantees? Why not embrace your gift of today as you trust God and pray?
Stuff To Be Enough
One thing I know: All kinds of things can happen over the course of an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year, etc., even to the best of people, and many times we cannot control most of anything that goes one. Many times, like in these days, all the things of this pandemic are more out of control than ever; however, none of this takes God by surprise, and if you or I trust God, as we pray "Give us today our daily bread," and if we live one day at a time, praying and trusting God for today, we will have the stuff to be enough. Let God take care of you, as you follow the Lord Jesus. Today, you can count on it that God WILL take care of you His child. Pray today, and live one day at a time. You will be glad you did.
Be Blessed Today, Especially 2day.
