The Great One

Your are from God, little children, and have overcome the evil ones;because greater is He that is in you than he who is in the world.

John --1 John 4:4

     There is indeed evil in the world, and the ancient wisdom of the Holy Bible teaches that there is more than one evil one.  It talks about evil ones.  They are also called "principalities, powers and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly dimensions." (See Ephesians 6: where Paul talks about the ones who are really our enemies.)  Jesus took authority over these evil ones, and He gives us authority over the same.  So we don't need to fear these anymore than we need to fear germs.  

     If you are a  modernist, you  don't believe that such entities exist.  That is your choice, but the reality of something is not contingent on what you choose to think is true.  Reality is based on what is true. Scripture, the Word of God, IS Truth.  The Holy Spirit is Truth, and Jesus is the way, THE TRUTH and the Life. Therefore, it is my humble opinion that what The Truth says to be true is indeed true, and my experience has taught me that it is freeing to walk in The Truth.

    Why is this so?  It is so because of the good news that Christ-Followers have overcome the evil ones just as the Holy Spirit reveals in our above scripture. It is also true "Greater is HE who is in us than he who is in the world."  We also have the same resurrection power surging through our being that was exerted by God's Holy Spirit when He raised Jesus from the dead.  And this power is described as being in our possession that, even today, can make demons flee.  It's the power Christ-Followers possess that is "far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invokes, not only in the present age but also in the one to come."  We have this same power that placed the Devil and his crew under Jesus "feet." (See Ephesians 1:19-23)  Jesus came and destroyed Satan's work (1 John 3:8,) and He disarmed and made a public spectacle of these evil ones. (Colossians 2:15); therefore, as God's children, we can submit to God, resist the Devil, and he has to flee:  James 4:7.

     Sure the Devil is a liar and the father of all lies, and when he lies he speaks his native language. Jesus told us so. But Satan has no authority over a child of God.  If we believe the lies he speaks, as well as his representatives, he can cause us problems .... especially in our thought life. Believe these evil ones don't exist.  Believe that such talk has nothing to do with today, and you are believing one of his lies.  You will not be doing yourself any good.  Reject the lies.  Believe the truth, and you will be set free. It really is true, we have, because of the crucified, dead, buried and resurrected Jesus who is the Christ, we have ALREADY overcome the evil ones.  The Devil cannot make us do anything, and he cannot because of The Great One ... even Jesus ... empowers our lives each day.
