Jesus Quotes: They Need A Doctor
"The sick need a physician."
Jesus
Jesus had all kinds of crowds following him that day, and on that day, he forgave the sins of a paralyzed man, and oh by the way, he also healed him. The crowds continued to follow him. So he did something very "popular" with the religious people: He decided to ask a tax collector to follow him. (We all just love the IRS don't we?) Then Jesus went home with the tax collector and his sinning friends for dinner. Indeed, Jesus was in a habit of celebrating with all kinds of "sinners." Needless to say, Jesus was not going to be winning any friends among the ones who liked to think of themselves as holy.
Now, when Jesus was talking about people needing a Doctor, he was actually doing things that a Doctor of that day could only dream of doing; for example, I don't think any of the medical community were healing paralysis, causing blind eyes to see nor were they causing deaf ears to be able to hear. Quite the contrary, medicine during Jesus journey on earth was rudimentary. So he was speaking about something far more deeper. The healing he was implying involved a healing that the physical eye would have difficulty in seeing. The natural eye may not see it at all, though he healed many physically for every eye to see.
You see the "Holy Joes" and "Holy Janes" were criticizing him for hanging out with the "wrong kind of people." And they really missed Jesus' purpose. For while Jesus was calling "the sick" he makes it clear he was calling those who were enslaved to their sins. Their "demons" had hold of them and would not let them go. So, he called them to believe in him, to follow him or he was calling them to his power to help them turn from what had hold of them to him. And he would then forgive them, save them, and set them on a path where they could indeed overcome sin and live new lives. They needed a physician for their sin sickness. And Dr. Jesus gave them a healing of their identity. He made them new creations.
I had to have Jesus help me with my sin sickness, and daily I rely on him to form me into his image. I suspect there are others reading this blog who need the eternal physician.
If you do, I recommend you read a Psalm that will really help you to speak plainly with Jesus about your sin sickness. Make it your own as you pray Psalm 51.
Do this and be blessed 2day, especially Today.
