What God Says About Abortion
Hear we go again, as we discuss what 91% of Christ-Followers requested their Pastor open their mouths and proclaim "Thus Saith The Lord." For me, of all topics that can be discussed, this one is Horrific, Heart Breaking and God's Heavenly commands/word is very clear.
HORRIFIC:
I use this word because over 40 years ago, shortly after Rowe V. Wade was codified by a few people wearing black robes, I saw the results of an abortion up close and personal. Part of my job as a medic/med lab specialist was to send surgical specimens out to our Pathology folks. One "specimen" that crossed my counter was in a clear container, but I could not see what was inside (at first) because the label I was reading prevented me from doing so. The label said "Uterine Cuttings." When I turned the container around to do my job I nearly dropped the container! I stared down at a fully formed baby! It's head, arms and legs had been torn out of it's little torso and it's head had been crushed!!! To this very day, I cannot get this image out of my head. It was horrifying!!!
Keep in mind that over the years as a medic, pastor, and chaplain, I have seen some really awful things. I have seen bodies burned and broken from an airplane crash. I have seen human beings whose bodies had been torn apart by explosions and other devastating acts of war. I have seen the hands of a little girl burned until they were nothing but two large blisters because her parents wanted to teach her "don't play with matches!" I saw the carnage of what family members could do to their spouses and children as I served on the Air Forces teams evaluating whether or not something could even be called abuse. Many times there was not question because it was terrible abuse. I have listened to the stories of so many people who were spiritually, emotionally, verbally, passively and sexually abused that their descriptions burned images into my head. Yet NOTHING haunts me more today that what I saw in that jar that day!!! N-O-T-H-I-N-G!!! I know how soon a baby in the womb begins to feel. I know how soon the heart begins beating (the first 28 days.) And I can tell you this "surgical specimen" was as big or bigger than my fist. I can tell you this little one felt every bit of the pain that accompanied it's dismemberment. Words cannot describe the searing explosion of pain that pulsed through it's brain as it was crushed. Does this bother you? I don't care if it does. Because abortion is horrific! I wish everyone was horrified by it.
Heart Breaking:
Over the years, I listened to the stories of women who had made the decision to have an abortion and followed through with their choice. I have also seen how devastating the after affects were to a young woman's soul. Something triggered them after the abortion. They may have held someone's baby or simply thought of what the baby would have been like a year later after the abortion. Each one assured me that no one "counseled" them regarding the potential emotional impact of having an abortion. As a matter of fact they told me that the "counseling" was so clinical or sterile sounding. The word abortion was foreign to the "counseling." It was called a "procedure." Removing the baby was being discussed as if it were an appendectomy. And of course, the abortionist discussed the "fees" up front to be sure of payment.
Yet once these young women were triggered, shock, anger, depression, guilt took them over. The "only ifs" filled their minds with deep and terrible regret. Sadness covered them like a blanket. Symptoms similar to PTSD took hold. I call it Abortion Traumatic Stress Disorder. After days, weeks and months of listening, grieving with them and offering God's redemption and forgiveness, did their lives find some balance, though I don't think they were ever the same again. Yup! Abortion is heart breaking. And with it having happened more than 50 million times since it became "legal," heart breaking does not even begin to describe the pain.
The Heavenly Word's Commands:
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.
Even before I was born, God had chosen me to be His.
For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb… Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.
Your hands shaped me and made me… Did You not clothe me with skin and flesh and knit me together with bones and sinews? You gave me life.
This is what the Lord says—He who made you, who formed you in the womb
Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One form us both within our mothers?
Because man is made in God’s own image (Genesis 1:27), each life is of great value to God:
Children are a gift from God.
He even calls our children His own children:
You took your sons and daughters whom you bore to Me and sacrificed them… You slaughtered My children.
The Bible says of our Creator,
In His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of every human being
God, the giver of life, commands us not to take the life of an innocent person:
Do not shed innocent blood.
Cursed is the man who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person
Taking the life of the unborn is clearly murder—
He didn’t kill me in the womb, with my mother as my grave.
—and God vowed to punish those who…
ripped open the women with child
The unborn child was granted equal protection in the law; if he lost his life, the one who caused his death must lose his own life:
If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman, and she gives birth prematurely, but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined …if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life.
Life is a gift created by God, and is not to be taken away by abortion. God is “pro-choice,” but He tells us clearly the only acceptable choice to make:
I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live
Helpful Counsel
So, if you are considering an abortion, before you go through with the "counseling." Please take into consideration all of the above. This is NOT just a sterile "procedure" we are discussing.
The baby is NOT a "specimen" to be put in a jar. God is VERY clear. This is at the very least a potential human life. But in actuality it is much more it IS a human life you are discussing.
Hold on Before You Consider An Abortion: THINK!
If you must consider this, then educate yourself regarding how abortions are done. (I have not mentioned anywhere near the horrors that go on in some abortion clinics.) Pay attention to your emotions. Think about how you will feel when a holiday comes around or when you hold a baby. If your heart is not into deciding to keep the baby, then let it have the same right as you to pursue "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," which is granted all Americans in our founding documents. Adoption is a viable option. Finally, seriously consider what God has to say about it in his Word.
