Approaching God: Another Favorite

Approaching God
Another Favorite of Mine

In Him, and through faith in Him, we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
Ephesians 3:12

As I sit here writing this, I wonder if I really grasp  just how powerful, precious and purpose filled  an opportunity this thing of approaching God really is? In the Old Testament, even the High Priest could find himself in a dangerous situation, if he approached God in the wrong way. As a matter of fact, there were those occasions when a rope of some kind was tied around his ankle just in case he died while going into the presence of God. He may have died approaching God in an inappropriate way. So unlike today, entering into God's presence was not done so in such a casual way. Indeed, the average Jane or Joe did not have the privilege of entering God's presence alone. The ones who did approached with fear and trembling.

However, because of our relationship with Jesus – who is the Messiah and great High Priest –  not only is Christ "in us," we are also "in Christ!" Yes! The very moment we believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and we invite Him into a relationship with us, He comes into our life! He is then "in us," and we are "in Him!" The word intimacy comes to mind. His Holy Spirit permeates our lives! Our lives are intimate with God! His Spirit bears witness with our spirits that we are privileged children of God and heirs of the King, with special privileges.

This particular favorite verse of mine teaches that faith is key to making this happen: And not only does it make it happen, this faith based intimate relationship empowers us to do this with "freedom and confidence!" We don't have to approach our Heavenly Father cowering as if He is going to strike us dead. We don't have to approach Him as if we are some kind of unworthy slaves. We don't have to approach Him as if He will reject us. We are absolutely certain, because of Jesus representing us as the great High Priest, we can go to our heavenly father confidently! To say that another way, "we can, therefore come  boldly into the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need!" Hebrews 4:16.

As the old song says,

"Oh what peace we often forfeit. For what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer."

Why not take advantage of this golden opportunity to experience this marvelous intimacy with God? This will certainly provide you the means ...

Especially Today
