7 Things He Did For You And Me.
7 Things He Did For You And Me.
Hebrews
2:14-18
14. Since the children have flesh and
blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy Him
who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those
who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16 For
surely it is not angels He helps, but Abraham’s descendants. 17 For
this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, in order that He
might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that He
might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because He
Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being
tempted.
People like to talk
about the Top 10 of This or The Top Ten of That… or whatever; however, many
times God usually speaks of things in Sevens.
Here are some examples: After six
days of creating Creation, God rested on the Seventh day. Joseph prophetically
uttered the Seven years of plenty and the Seven years of famine, which actually
happened. Jesus spoke of being Lord of the Sabbath or Seventh Day. When Jesus
spoke to Peter about forgiveness, Peter asked him how often he should forgive,
and he asked, “Should I forgive Seven times?”
Jesus response was we would better for give Seventy times seven for each
and every sin against us, if someone asks for our forgiveness. Hopefully you can see what I am saying.
The Holy
Scriptures of The Bible positively talk about Jesus as the Christ-Followers
brother. Since it’s been a little over a
couple of millennia since He was here on Planet Earth, it is safe to say He is
our older or bigger brother; however, His kinship with us has some very
significant benefits, including 7 things
Jesus did for us, as our big brother, as the one who died for us on the Cross
and as the Great High Priest who (as God the Son) represents us to God The
Father via the power of The Holy Spirit. Check these out:
1.
Jesus
shared in our flesh in blood by becoming like us, and He shared in our
humanity.
2.
He did this so that when He died, on the
Cross, He would destroy the one who holds the power of death. That evil one we know as the Devil.
3.
He
did this for a reason: He did this to free those of us who are fearful of death
from the slavery of fearing death. And He did this to free us from the bondage
of sin and death. Because He lives, we will also literally live… now and
forever… even after the grave.
4.
He did not do this for the angels. He did this for God’s people… the people who
bow their knees and confess that Jesus us the Son of God.
5.
Therefore,
it is reasonable that He had to be made like us (we mere humans) in order that
he might become the High Priest who represents us before God so He could atone
for every sin we have done wrong. Another translation reveals that this
atonement is the act of him turning aside God’s wrath by taking on this wrath
on the Cross.
6.
He suffered and died so that we would overcome
the suffering of death and one day have his help to live again…defeating death.
7.
Additionally, He did this to help us when we
are tempted.
I don’t know about you, but this sounds
like a very good deal to me. It’s clear that God really is with us. It’s
certain that, since there is no greater love than the love for someone who will lay
down their life for you, that we really are loved! It’s beyond a doubt that death no longer
has authority over we who believe in Jesus who was crucified died buried and
rose from the dead. It’s is without question that because He lives we now can
also live, and we are not in bondage to sin or death. It’s obvious He did not
do it for the heavenly beings but He did it for us human beings. It’s definite He
came to “walk a mile in our shoes” so as to understand what it’s like to be
God, and at the same time, God with human skin on. It’s guaranteed that the
punishment that we should have had He took upon himself. He did this so that
God could manifest His love toward us. It’s indeed true that His death becoming
life made possible the same for us. Finally it’s a certainty that He
experienced every kind of temptation that we have experienced so as to help us
when we struggle. We are not alone! Yup! For us this is a very good deal.
Scriptures tell us
that God accomplished the seven things unconditionally; however, to benefit
from these things that Christ accomplished, the unconditionally becomes one
conditionally: God did indeed love the world so much that He gave His only
biological Son. And He did this, as I said, unconditionally. But to benefit the
unconditionally becomes one
conditionally. For the promise continues that “whosoever believes it then Him
will not perish but will have eternal life.” To benefit we must believe in what
God did, and we must believe In His Son.
The choice is up
to you. To benefit or not to benefit as a little brother or a little sister of
Jesus, that is indeed the question. You have to decide whether you want to
believe God loves you so much to send His son to die for you and rise from the
dead. Or you can decide you do not want to believe. God leaves the choice
entirely up to you. I hope you choose to believe Him. So God is actually giving you the ability to
choose life or to choose death. His desire is for you to choose life, and I
hope you will.
Then You Will Be Blessed
