Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide??? REALLY?
Acts 24:16
I also do
my best to maintain always a blameless conscience
both before God and before
men
A good part of my life I have heard, "Let your conscience be your guide." REALLY? Can we really trust this? After all, if you think about it, this has serious
limitations, since our conscience is a function of our mind. BC (Before Christ) we were continually guided by the values of "the world." This being true, we were "programmed" with GIGO...Garbage In Garbage Out; therefore our consciences would always
be true to "the worlds" own standard....that is, again, until we come to Christ.
Needless to say, many people are falsely guided by a guilty
conscience--not a true guilt, but a psychological guilt usually developed in
early childhood & adolescence. Satan works through this stronghold to accuse the brethren, (and sisters) day
and night (Revelation 12:10).
People guided by a world based conscience tend to be perfectionists who labor under condemnation, even though the
Bible says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans
8:1). They aren't led; they are driven. They constantly look for affirmation.
They have a tendency to be people-pleasers. Paul said, "If I were still
trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ" (Galatians
1:10). If you are striving to please people of whom are you a bond-servant?
Since our
minds were conformed to this world, we need to renew them in such a way that
what we believe is in accordance with truth, which tells Christ-Followers the following: We have great worth --apart from our performance--because Christ gave his life for us. ( Romans 5:8.) and he, therefore, imparted great value to us. We are deeply loved by the Lord. (John 15:13 and 1 John 4:9-10) Totally accepted by him (Colossians 1:22-23) Completely forgiven by him and fully pleasing to him. (Romans 3:20-25) and absolutely completed IN Christ Jesus. (Colossians 2:10-11.)
If we receive Christ, and his promises, this will help us renew our minds to not do stinking thinking, and it will give us power to be free in Christ... one day at a time. Then, and only then, can you or I allow our own personal conscience to guide our journey. I say this because we will then be guided by God's Holy Spirit and the freedom that comes from knowing Christ and his Word. So let your conscience be your guide when it is guided by God's Word, and it is guided by God's on Holy Spirit.
Now Go Be Blessed 2day
Especially 2day
