WHEN HELPING YOU IS HURTING ME: Overcoming Messianic Complex
WHEN HELPING YOU IS HURTING ME.

Self care, and letting go of the past, are God given opportunities to be free from the brokenness and toxicity of those who, while you care about them, bring you down... causing you significant heart break and pain. They are so wrapped up in their own journey that they have no need to wonder about where you may be in yours, and you could be so wrapped up in theirs that your objectivity is impacted. The result is your own needs go unmet in a toxic sort of way and you just might not be doing the good for which you hope.
These people show no real interest or any concern in how well your are... even though your own well being is very important to their own. But they want what they want when they want it. Continuing to attempt to improve such people's quality of life, while hurting your own, may seem God like. Keep in mind, however, that Christ Follower's believe there was/is one Messiah... and "you ain't Him!"

We are called to Love God with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength, and we are called to love our neighbors as ourselves. This means, how we love ourselves - under GOD - is a yard stick for how we love others. If we do not know how to provide love for ourselves (or self care for ourselves,) we are making it unnecessarily difficult for us to keep serving God and others. We may even be contributing to other people's journeys in a less than functional way.
Now back to the afore mentioned relationship(s). If the relationship(s) is/are not reciprocal. Something is VERY wrong! VERY wrong! It just might be you could be doing more harm than good...especially to yourself.
Letting go of your own personal Messianic Complex might be the best thing you can do for all concerned. When caring for others, it seems to me that practicing the "Golden Rule" is important... just so long as you care enough about your own well being to be well.
