Ways To Build A Holy/Healthy Conscience In Your Child #3
The 3rd Way To Build A Holy Conscience In Your Child
And In You.
"This is the Covenant I will make with." Hebrews 10:16
In this age when morality is based on a foundation of quicksand and moral fragmentation , helping our children and grandchildren to know God has really become a challenge. Nevertheless, the number one place your child/grandchild can find God is in your teaching them what is eternally important for the living of each day.
I want to help you do this for your family; therefore we continue our sojourn together as we look at the 3rd way to help build a "Holy Conscience." Keep in mind that Holy and Healthy are similar in more ways than one might think.
Teach Them About The Covenant God Has Made
With Us....Them
God planned this long before the world was ever created: (Check out the first few verses of Ephesians 1.) And The Covenant He has made with them/us is supernatural and it is life changing. Unlike the Old Covenant, which points to this New Covenant that fulfills the law and the Old Covenant, (See Romans 3:20-25 :O), This Covenant, not only gives you a clean record, but it accomplishes some amazing "stuff" in us. So it gives us the "stuff" to be enough.
Let me break it down for you so that you can break it down for your family: First, when Jesus shed His blood on the Cross, He fulfilled His identity as "The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." Check out Hebrews 9:12. "It was neither by the blood of goats and calves, but it was by His own blood that He entered into the Holiest place (in heaven) --once and for all-- to obtain eternal redemption for us. Eternal redemption means that He gives us a clean record for all eternity. That is He, once and for all, removes the sin virus from the hard drive of our souls.
Second: His body did something as well. Check out Hebrews 10: 10. "We are sanctified (made holy and or set apart for holy use) by the offering of the body of Jesus Christ, once and for all." Now I know you may not feel holy or always act in such a way that would resemble holiness; however, God's Covenant is not based on what you have done, it is based on what God has done. And He declares you Holy and sets you apart to fulfill your purpose in life for His glory.
Third: He makes you perfect in His sight. Say What??? Hebrews 10:14 says "By one sacrifice He has perfected forever those whom He is making holy." He is NOT saying that other humans would view you this way. He is giving you His perspective of you based on the gospel/good news of this Covenant. What does God mean by "perfect?" I am glad you asked:
Fourth: The Holy Spirit explains this God defined perfection in the next few verses of chapter 10. "The Holy Spirit testifies about this when He says, I will put my laws in your hearts and write them on your minds. And I will no longer remember you sins and lawless acts." This is HUGE! God not only forgives you or liberates you from the power of sin (redeems you.) He not only makes you holy in His sight and sets you apart to fulfill your purpose in The Kingdom of God. He declares you perfect in His sight, which the Holy Spirit defines as God transforming you and forgiving you when you "mess up" in the process of being transformed!!! WOW!
Fifth: Continue reading through chapter 10 and you will see that, when Jesus body was sacrificed on the cross, the way into the holiest place became open to you for daily fellowship with God, and we can have this fellowship because we have The Mediator/High Priest, Jesus representing us before the Father.
Sixth: So He gives us an invitation. By the way, its the only part of the Covenant that is not "once and for all." It is something we do daily to have our hearts "sprinkled from a guilty conscience." This is the time to cast our cares on the Lord (1 Peter 5:7) It is the time to come to the High Priest who understands us to talk over our journey and receive mercy and grace "to help us in our time of need." (Hebrews 4:15-16.) The Prophets called Jesus the "Wonderful Counselor," and this is your daily opportunity to get up close and personal with Him! No earthly counselor can do for you what Jesus does.
Seventh: It's up to you to be a "Covenant Saint." It's up to you to pass this on to your children and grandchildren. Its' up to you to experience eternal life living through God's New Covenant. Keep all this in mind the next time you receive the "Lord's Supper" or "Holy Communion." In fact, I challenge you to share this with your family and give them the Body and Blood of Christ-- via Holy Communion and or the Lord's Supper-- as your teach this to them. Doing so will be a great object lesson and blessing for your family. This style of teaching sustained and sustains the Hebrews for thousandd of years. It will also sustain your family and you. It will be one more way to build a Healthy/Holy Conscience in your and in youchildren, grandchildren and in you.
