Guilty Until Proven Innocent

CAUTION:
THIS BLOG IS DIFFERENT TODAY

Today I am thinking briefly about a young man in Afghanistan who has been determined, by our press,  to be guilty until proven innocent.  "He did it..." they say.  It has happened more than once... the press has been wrong, and our troops-- for the most part-- turned out to be innocent of the atrocity or atrocities for which they have been accused.  What makes this so bad is the man was sent back a 4th time to the AOR, after being told he would never have to go.  You see he has a Traumatic Brain Injury, and he has lost part of his foot.

Because I have been wrongfully accused, I know how this feels, and it stinks.  But what really gets to me is that he had NO business going back to the AOR, given his psychological and physical conditioning. And our public news media needs to be sure to give him the respect most American citizens are given so that he is NOT tried in the media.

He has given MORE than his pound of flesh to this country, as has his dear family.  We should at least give him the respect of due process.  We should at least treat him with the dignity and provide him constitutionally mandated rights.  In the USA he is, after all, innocent until proven guilty.

And if he is indeed guilty in the end, certainly we need to question how a man with a Traumatic Brain Injury (previously told he could no longer--nor would any longer) serve in a war zone could actually be sent back to war.   The potential for an insane action in the insane war theater was a bomb waiting to explode.  We need to question the stinking thinking that could have set this poor man up to fail.

I am just saying...
