The Power of Letting Go: A Practical Story

Let Go... and... Let God.

Somewhere in old SoJourners memory banks I have one of my favorite stories:  It has to do with monkeys.  They were all over the place in the jungle, and they were having a whole lot of fun conducting their playful monkey business.

Sadly trappers came there way to trap these little old tree climbers, but the monkeys were way to fast; yet one trapper had an idea that really grabbed him. In fact the idea had to do with grabbing.  You see these trappers developed big bottles with small necks, and they laid them on the ground.  They put things in the bottle that would attract the monkeys, especially a beautiful banana.

Now here is the rest of the story:  If a monkey reached in the jar, it could pull its hand out, but if it grabbed hold to the banana, there was NO way they could pull their hands out.  In time the monkeys came around and fiddled around with the bottles.  About the time they reached for the banana the trappers came forward acting as if they were going for the banana.  The monkey gripped tight to the banana.... you guessed it.  They were trapped and put in cages for the rest of their lives; yet because of their quickness, if they had let go of the banana they would be free.

We humans are not to much different about holding on to things that hurt us and our relationships.  I can guess that you can figure out one thing you are holding onto (or have held on to) that you just wish you could let go of.  The problem is their is no good in being a grabber.  No good for those around us.  No good for you. No good for me. Holding on too tight to things really can put us in a long term trap.

Why not let go of that thing?

That's a good idea!

Let go of it, and let God have it.

 You know what I mean???
"Let it be, let it be, let it be... oh... Let It be... simple words of wisdom: Let IT be!"
Quit monkeying around :o)
You will be glad you did.

Be Blessed 2 day... Especially 2 day...
It is the only day guaranteed.
So live it to the fullest!
