A LITTLE GIRL & A MIDNIGHT MIRACLE

A Story

A MIDNIGHT MIRACLE

Oma's Room

The clock was moving toward midnight and Oma was struggling to breath.  She was going through the process of moving from this life into the next.  She had lived with cancer for a season, seemed to be well, but then the cancer came back and was now taking its final toll on her body. It was not, however, taking her life. BTW, did I say it was getting close to midnight?

Loved ones were gathered around, and they had done so since she had moved into the hospice earlier in the day.  Certainly her beloved Opa, J and J's beloved (G or TLOHL) were nearby for this portion of the journey.  Sadness could be felt because this was "just too soon..." and the clock ticked on closer to midnight at this hospice on the east coast of Florida.  Oma's journey just seemed to short.  It seemed to be unfair.

Peanut

Peanut, a beautiful four year old, and her older brother Big Stuff, went to visit at the hospice.  TLOML and SoJourner drove them to see Oma just one more time.  Feelings were those of children who understood something big was about to happen, but they simply did not understand.  I am not so sure any of us truly "get it."  I am not sure we adults really understand.  I certainly do not.  All the children knew was that they wanted to see "Oma before she died."  The clock kept ticking.

J and TLOHL had done a good job of preparing Big Stuff and Peanut for this part of the journey. TLOML and this  SoJourner had been asked by J and TLOHL to be with the children to help them have a better understanding, but I believe they did a way better job of helping Peanut and Big Stuff "get it" than they could have ever imagined... as the rest of this story will reveal.

The clock was ticking toward midnight and the children just were not sleeping.  Mac (TLOML)  had prepared them with their CD players in their own places to watch their movies.  Peanut kept checking with us other grands and was up and down a bit.  First Papa (SoJourner) held her a while and then finally Mac was laying down with her watching a video.  Big Stuff dozed in an out.  And the clock was ticking toward Midnight.

At midnight, Peanut rolled over to talk with Mac.  She said, "Mac Oma is hurting real bad right now." Mac answered, "She is?"  Peanut then said, "She just needs to go to heaven now so she won't hurt anymore."  Mac said, "Do you want to pray about this."  Peanut said, "No ... she is going to heaven now."  She then rolled over to continue watching her movie.  And the clock struck midnight a 120 miles away from the Palm Bay hospice in a town called Lakeland, Florida.

THE REST OF THE STORY:

The clock struck midnight  in Palm Bay, and somewhere around midnight Oma graduated to glory.  This time was what all had waited for this day, but they certainly did not want it to happen.  The privacy of their grief will not be written about here.  The only way that anyone outside the Palm Bay Hospice will know its details will be to speak with those who were near Oma's bed when the clock clicked around 12.  It is their story and only they should tell it.

Around 1:30 AM J had called SoJourner  to tell him about Oma's graduation.  We talked briefly and then we ended this sad conversation.  SoJourner elected to let everyone sleep.  He would tell the story when they awoke.

About 7AM Big Stuff came into talk with Papa Mac ( SoJourner).  Papa Mac told him about Oma, and Big Stuff cried a bit as Papa Mac held him.  Peanut and Mac were still sleeping.  Mac got up later and Papa told her the story.  Mac told Papa Peanut's story of the midnight that had just passed in Lakeland, Florida.

Peanut woke up, and Mac sat with her to tell her about Oma.  Mac told Peanut "Oma has gone to heaven."  Peanut simply responded.  "Mac I know."  She seemed puzzled as if to say, "I told you at midnight she had gone to heaven."

Now some reading this would say this is just a "coincidence."  To you I say, "Your really don't want to believe!"  "Do you?" You are certainly entitled to such an opinion, but I respectfully disagree with you.

I have seen too many things in my life like this to have such little faith in an Amighty God.  (We have a similar miracle that occurred when Big Stuff was an infant when SoJourners' mother graduated.) Years of perspective now teach me how the Heavenly Father knows best.  As our loving Heavenly Parent, HE sees a much bigger picture of our journeys than do we.  And  I actually believe that a little 4 year old girl had spiritual insight at midnight.  I do believe in this midnight miracle. This little girl clearly has a message from God to us today.

I also believe in God, and I believe in His Son, Jesus (Who is also God.)  And I believe that this Jesus (who was a carpenter on earth) has promised that He has gone to prepare a place for us that where He is we shall be also.  And at midnight Oma moved on into here place Jesus prepared so that "she would not have to hurt anymore."  That's Peanut's story... That's my story, and I am sticking to it :o)

Be Blessed today.   Especially today.
SoJourner.
