Ten Commandments And Conscience Building

Please take some time to think about what follows.  It could change your life:

Commands being given from higher ranking to lower ranking personnel are common in the life of a military person,  and these orders have a way of helping them order their lives.  Sometimes following solid orders actually have been known to save a military person's life.

Since the beginning of our nation, God's 10 Commands, greatly influenced and structured our national life.  They actually helped order our lives.  Our Supreme Court has these commands written on and or in its architecture.  As our laws were created, they had as their foundation the ancient wisdom predicated on thousands of years of historical wisdom provided, at least partially, by these commands.  "In God we trust" finds its foundation in the teaching of these 10 liberating limits that have ordered our cultural life.  These 10 sign posts for navigating life became a bed rock moral compass for guiding our individual and eclectic conscience. 

Now in other cultures, values are taught through religious worship centers and schools.  The schools reinforce the teaching of the worship centers.  This use to be true here in the USA; however, in 1962 and in the years that followed, these God Commands that helped make our nation be free were band from the educational process.  Eventually, rather than reinforce the powerfully positive influence the Judeo-Christian ethic had upon our culture since its beginning, schools began to teach that this kind of thing could not be a subject to teach.  The religious/spiritual foundation was separated from the schools almost completely.  And our nations individual and eclectic conscience began to change for the worse. People began to be come moral relativists, and they began to "do their own thing."  Many began to do "that which was right in their own sight." Sadly I have witnessed this, and the results have been disheartening.

Since the time that spiritual/religious education became anathema to our public schools, murder rates, suicide rates, violent crimes, greed, sexual immorality, the public discourse, teen pregnancies, divorce and many other moral negatives have sky rocketed. People, more and more, are determining their own morality absent from God's guidance.  Sadly we have all ready begun to reap what we have sown.  The "lawlessness" of "the last days" foretold in the ancient wisdom of The Holy Script is now upon us.

The question for Christ Followers is "What is a Christian parent to do?"  My response, build your child's conscience as early as possible.  Teach them the 10 commandments in your home from the earliest part of their life.  Teach the alphabet.  Teach the 1o commandments.  Memorize them.  Have your children memorize them.  Have them written clearly somewhere within your home.  Talk about them often in positive ways, and do so in your home.  Look for teaching moments to instruct your child in wholesome ways.  Making these rules for daily living a daily part of your life will tell your child that these 10 rules for healthy (holy) living are indeed important. This will help your child internalize these commands, and it will help you do the same.  Your child will form a solid conscience around these 10 sign posts of what God says is right, and what God says is wrong.

Learn about what Jesus says about these commandments.  His understanding is clearly enlightening.  After all He is "the light of the world, " and He came to show us what God is like.  His interpretations of these commands are all important.  Teach what you learn about what The Son of God says about these laws to your children. This sets the stage for salvation to not only be taught, but it will also be caught by your child.

Let your lives intersect the 10 commandments, and it will not take long before you realize, you cannot keep these commandments on your own, but God will work all this out. What does God say about the New Covenant and the 10 commandments?  How do we keep them since we cannot do so on our own?  "Inquiring minds want to know for sure."

 You will begin to learn how to benefit by observing God's activity: Pay close attention to what the Christ has done through the Cross as He established His New Covenant.  Because of the sacrificial giving of Himself, the LORD is now the mediator of a New Covenant where, once we have turned from breaking the law (sin) to Jesus who is the Christ,  He begins a marvelous miracle in us and through us.  He puts these laws in our hearts and writes them in our minds. He forgets every sin we have ever committed!  (Hebrews 10:15-18) He gives us access into the prayer room in heaven. He cleanses our consciences. He tells us to encourage each other in doing good, and He tells us to habitually worship together in  a group. (Hebrews 10:19-25)  

The impact on your life and your child's life will be very real.  In a nut shell, God gives us a new mindset/paradigm for living.  He gives us a NEW conscience, and He gives us power to then truly let our healthy (holy) conscience be our guide.  Ultimately He gives us the ability to live up to these 10 liberating limits of God. He provides an intimate relationship with God. This is called transformational living. This is the GOOD NEWS of the gospel. This is the truth that sets us free.

Therefore, learn the importance of these 10 part sign posts for living.  Learn them, and make them a part of your life.  Teach them to your child(ren) in such a way that these laws for living will be second nature. Read what the old Prophet Jeremiah says about these things in Jeremiah 31:31-33 and about how the New Covenant will be different from the ones written only on tablets of stone. Read about how this New Covenant is fulfilled and impacts your life daily in Hebrews chapters 9 & 10. Come to the place where you know you cannot keep God's commands  without our Lord and Savior working in you and through you.   He is the Christ of the Cross and the powerful (miraculous) life changing New Covenant.  Worship with others in His organism (the Body Of Christ) His church.  Then no matter what our culture does, your family will have a rock solid foundation for godly life giving living.

 A Godly conscience makes a soft pillow and puts you on a healthy/holy path for living each day.  God's orders give order to your life and the life of your descendants.
